IP Department of JIMS organized “Health Awareness Series –VI on “CPR and Heart Diseases” on 22nd August 2019 from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm. The session started with a lecture by Dr. Hemant Madan, who discussed health and healthy habits focussing on teenagers. He explained the working of the human heart and focussed on various factors that are identified and potential causes of heart diseases. His knowledge and experience were vastly appreciated.
The second half of the session was conducted by Dr. G S Popli, who explained about emergency assistance and basic life support. He shared valuable information about emergency assistance in case of an accident, cardiac arrest, etc. He demonstrated how to recover a patient using CPR and what precautions are to be followed. This session involved hands-on by student volunteers using human figurate.
The session was attended by students of BCA 2nd year and MCA 1st year along with many faculty members and was highly appreciated by the audience.
Profile of Dr. Hemant Madan
Dr. Hemant Madan is Sr Consultant and Director, Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiology in Narayana Super Speciality Hospital, Gurugram. & Dharamshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Delhi. Dr. Madan is an experienced and accomplished cardiologist with over 18 years of experience in all aspects of cardiology including complex coronary interventions, pediatric cardiology, device implantation for all kinds of rhythm disorders, and peripheral interventions. His fields of expertise include complex coronary and adult interventions, pediatric interventions, advanced pacing, and device management, and pediatric and fetal echocardiography.
Dr. Madan did his post-graduation from Pune University before pursuing Doctor of Medicine (DM) from Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute, Trivandrum. He further went on to pursue the prestigious Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians (FRCPE) from Edinburgh, UK.
Dr. Hemant has previously worked as a Senior Advisor in Cardiology at the Army Hospital Research & Referral. This was followed by a stint at Navy Hospital, Mumbai as a Senior Advisor & Head of Department (Cardiology).
Profile of Dr. G S Popli
Dr. Gurpreet Singh Popli has done his MBBS and Diploma in Anesthesia from Christian Medical College and did his DNB Anesthesia from St Stephens Hospital Delhi.
He started as a junior consultant in Mata Chanan Devi Hospital and Sunderlal Jain Hopital, then became consultant in BLK Hospital and is currently working as Additional Director in Department of Anesthesia at Fortis Shalimar Bagh. His Special interest is in pediatric oncology and GI Surgery.
He loves to teach and is principal faculty for DNB and is also a trainer in simulation in Anesthesia course.
