Data science in simple terms can be regarded as data driven science using which one can extract the insights and knowledge from the large sets of data either structured or unstructured. It involves interdisciplinary fields of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. To provide knowledge and skills about data and text analysis, Department of IT, organized a five days Faculty Development Program on “Data Science”. Data Analytics is a set of qualitative and quantitative techniques to extract and categorize data to identify and analyse behaviour and patterns. In this Faculty Development Program, participants got research orientation of the techniques and principles of Data Science and its methodologies. Participants also gained hands on experience on 'R' Studio interface and usage of 'R' programming for Image and Text Analysis. Various topics like Descriptive Statistics, Inferential Statistics, Regression (Lasso, Ridge, and Elastic Net), and Regression Analysis were covered. Faculty members and researchers from various colleges participated in the FDP.
1-3rd July, 2019
The FDP program started with the inaugural session, in which Dr.Manjot Kaur Bhatia, Professor(IT), JIMS interacted with the participants and gave an overview on the R studio. Resource person for first three days of FDP was Dr. Dhaval Maheta, Assistant Professor, Department of Business and Industrial Management, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat..Dr. Maheta shared his knowledge on Machine Learning and Statistical analysis using R -Rattle. He provided hands on session on various models and result analysis using R.
4-5th July, 2019
The resource person for last two days was Dr. Prashant Singh Rana, Assistant Professor, Thapar University. He discussed about Machine Learning, working with Classification, Regression, Clustering Problem. Multi-Decision Criteria using TOPSIS and Association Mining using R and Python. The FDP closed with the valedictory session in which, Dr. Manjot Kaur Bhatia, convener FDP, distributed the certificates to the participants. Vote of Thanks to all the resource persons and participants was given by Ms. Bhavna Galhotra Assistant Professor(IT), Jims. This FDP was very useful for Researchers and Faculties working in universities, colleges, training centres working on diverse research projects.
