The PGDM students had the opportunity to attend an enriching session on “Diversity and Indian Laws” conducted by Ms. Swati Swaroop, Founder & Managing Consultant, Embrace Consulting. The session provided deep insights into the legal frameworks that govern Indian workplaces and highlighted their implications for organizations and employees alike.
Ms. Swaroop differentiated between laws applicable to blue-collar workers, such as those under the Factories Act and Workmen’s Compensation Act and those relevant to white-collar employees, primarily regulated by the Shops and Establishments Act. She emphasized how compliance requirements differ across states, even in basic areas such as leave entitlements and working hours.
With the help of relatable industry examples, the session equipped students with valuable knowledge on how HR professionals must balance legal compliance, organizational values, and employee well-being. Ms. Swaroop also encouraged students to build strong legal awareness while nurturing empathy and inclusivity in their roles.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A bringing clarity on Indian laws shaping contemporary workplace and the pivotal role of HR professionals in driving fairness without loss of compliance.
