An insightful workshop on Advanced Excel was conducted on 20th November 2024 at JIMS, Rohini Sec-5, by Ms. Ambika Bhatia, a faculty member at JIMS. The session was highly interactive and well-organized, providing practical knowledge that participants could immediately apply in academic and professional settings. Key topics covered included techniques like Auto-Fit for row height and column width, Autofill for efficiently populating data, and methods to remove scientific notation from numbers. The session also addressed identifying blank cells, using Find & Replace for data adjustments, and shortcuts for inserting rows or columns. Participants learned to enhance data accuracy using functions like TRIM, Text-to-Columns, IFERROR, and PROPER/UPPER/LOWER for text formatting. Advanced functions such as SUBTOTAL, SUMPRODUCT, DATE formulas, and logical IF (AND/OR) functions were explored for complex data analysis. This workshop offered valuable hands-on practice with Excel’s powerful tools, leaving students more confident in their ability to analyze, organize, and present data effectively. The skills gained will undoubtedly benefit them in future projects, internships, and placements.
An incredibly insigh?ul workshop on Advanced Excel was held on 20th November 2024 at JIMS, Rohini Sec-5, conducted by Ms.Ambika Bhatia, JIMS faculty. Below is a summary of the key topics covered:
- Auto-Fit Row Height and Column Width: Adjusting rows and columns automatically to fit content.
- Autofill: Quickly filling data selecting blank cells in a column, entering = followed by the desired reference cell, and pressing Ctrl + Enter to duplicate the data across the selected range
- Remove Scientific Notation from Numbers: Techniques to display large numbers properly without scientific notation.
- Blank Cell Check: Identifying and addressing blank cells in datasets.
- Find & Replace: Efficiently locating and replacing data in a sheet.
- Shortcuts for Inserting Rows/Columns: Quick methods to add rows or columns.
- TRIM Function: Removing unnecessary spaces from text for cleaner data.
- Text-to-Columns: Splitng data from one column into multiple columns.
- IFERROR Function: Learned how to handle potential formula errors by returning a custom message or an alternate value.
- PROPER/UPPER/LOWER Functions: Changing text case formats for consistency.
- SUBTOTAL Function: CreaOng group-based summaries while ignoring hidden rows.
- SUMPRODUCT Function: Calculating the sum of products for arrays or ranges.
- DATE Functions: Calculating current ages or differences between dates using formulas like DATEDIF.
- IF Function: Using logic to determine outcomes like "Pass" or "Fail."
- IF(AND/OR) Function: Creating complex conditions for data analysis.
This workshop was an excellent learning experience, offering hands-on practice with Excel’s powerful tools. Students now feel more confident in using advanced Excel functions to analyze, organize, and present data. These new skills will be beneficial for future projects, internships & final placements.
