Building Brands That Attract: Alumni Session on Employer Branding for PGDM Students

PGDM Department organized an engaging session on 7th September 2024 for PGDM Section-A students featuring a discussion on Employer Branding led by our esteemed alumni, Ms. Deepti Vij, Director Talent APAC and JIMS Alumni Batch (2002-2004). The event provided valuable insights into what employer branding entails, its purpose, and the methods to establish and monitor a strong employer brand.

The discussion began with an introduction to What is Employer Branding? Ms. Deepti Vij explained that employer branding is the perception of a company's reputation as an employer and its appeal to current and potential employees. It’s essentially how a company is viewed as a place to work, influenced by its culture, values, work environment, and employee experiences.

The next topic covered was the Purpose of Employer Branding. Ms. Vij highlighted that a well-defined employer brand attracts top talent, boosts employee retention, and strengthens overall company loyalty. She explained that in today’s competitive job market, having a positive employer brand is crucial, as it not only helps in recruitment but also fosters a sense of pride and commitment among current employees.

Moving on to How to Build and Monitor Employer Branding, Ms. Vij shared practical strategies. She recommended beginning with a clear understanding of company values and mission, which should then be communicated consistently across all platforms. Key steps include sharing authentic employee stories, ensuring a positive candidate experience, and maintaining a transparent work culture. Ms. Vij also stressed the importance of regularly monitoring the brand's image through employee feedback, social media engagement, and reviews on sites like Glassdoor, to gauge perceptions and make necessary improvements.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students asked for advice on evaluating employer brands when job hunting and discussed how branding affects long-term career satisfaction. Ms. Vij emphasized that students should consider employer branding when selecting a job to ensure alignment with their values and career goals.

Overall, this event offered students an in-depth understanding of employer branding's significance and inspired them to actively seek employers whose values and cultures resonate with their own.
