JIMS Rohini Organized Workshop on “Personality Development Portfolio”

The Personality Development workshop led by Mr. Ankit Kalonia, Head of Learning Development at JLL India, was organized on 7th September 2024 at Jagan Institute of Management Studies, Rohini Sector-5, New Delhi. This highly engaging session aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Personality Development (PD) and its relevance in today’s professional environment.

The session commenced with a brief introduction to Personality Development. Mr. Kalonia opened the discussion by asking students, “What is personality development, and in which sectors is it required the most?” This sparked an interactive exchange, helping the students reflect on their understanding of personality enhancement in different professional fields.

Following the discussion, Mr. Kalonia defined Personality Development as the combination of self-awareness and social awareness and emphasized the importance of managing both to respond to challenges effectively. He shared his personal experience from his college days, recounting how he struggled to convert interviews at The Oberoi and how these experiences shaped his understanding of personal growth and professional preparation.

The session progressed with a deep dive into the recruitment process, as Mr. Kalonia provided valuable insights into how he evaluates candidates during the hiring process. He highlighted the key qualities he looks for in an ideal candidate, emphasizing the importance of leaving a good impression while avoiding bad impressions.

Building on this, the session explored Emotional Intelligence(EQ) and how self-awareness plays a critical role in personal and professional development. Mr. Kalonia introduced the students to well-known models of EQ, such as the Daniel Goleman Model and the Personality Profile Model by William M. Marston, offering a brief yet insightful discussion on each application in understanding and managing emotions.

The workshop concluded with a detailed explanation of the DISC Model, where:

·        D stands for Dominance

·        I for Influence

·        S for Sensitivity

·        C for Conscientiousness

Mr. Kalonia explained how understanding these components can help in customer handling and professional interactions, making it an essential tool for personality development in the workplace.

Overall, the session was insightful and interactive, leaving students with practical knowledge of Personality Development and its crucial role in shaping successful careers. Mr. Ankit Kalonia’s expertise and real-life examples provided students with valuable takeaways on how to navigate both personal growth and professional challenges.
