JIMS Rohini Organized Orientation Week

Inaugural Session 

JIMS, Rohini hosted its annual Orientation Program from 4-8 July 2023 to welcome the new batch 2023-25 of PGDM, PGDM IB and PGDM RM students with an objective to assist the newly joined students to develop a fair understanding of the journey they would be undertaking during the course of their program. One of the key agendas of the program was to instill managerial aptitude in the students, promote interpersonal interactions and sow the seed of holistic self-development. To enable this, the program had sessions focusing on themes like team building, time management, mental awareness, case study analysis, and personal branding.
4th July marked the commencement of the orientation program. The day kickstarted on an auspicious note with the ceremonial lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana. Students from different cultural, socioeconomic, and demographic backgrounds gathered with excitement to hear from eminent speakers who boosted the morale of the students and guided them toward the path of their career progression. 
The session was graced by the presence of the guests of honour:  Mr Jagdish Mitra, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Growth, Tech Mahindra; Mr. Deepak Vohra, special advisor to the Prime Minister and associated with Lesotho and Guinea-Bissau to Ladakh Autonomous Hill development councils, Kargil and Leh; Ms Anastasia Grineva, Head of the Economic Department of Trade Representation of Russia in India;  and the entire JIMS fraternity including D Harshvardhan Halve, Director General JIMS Rohini, Dr Pooja Jain, Director JIMS Rohini and the Program Heads: Dr Pratima Daipuria, Dr Sonia Dhir and Dr R.K Singh. 
The session started with an opening address and a welcome note by Dr. Pooja Jain to the faculty, students and guests of honour. Dr. Jain briefed about the institute, its vision and mission, history and ranking of the institute along with recent achievements. She told students about the importance of the program and how it is focused on enhancing the skills and learning of the students along with placements. She also mentioned different specializations of the program and how the faculty and staff members of the college will help students to take the right path and guide them.
Dr. Harshavardhan Halve advised students that learning is not based on scores and that students should be able to express themselves freely. In addition to learning during the curriculum, he told students that the institution aims is to help them apply, their classroom learnings to the workplace, which is what the company experts expect during the placements.
Being the keynote address speaker, Mr Jagdish Mitra  said that he saw students as a big investment who can collaborate as the biggest virtue of a true leader. Mr Mitra attributed his success towards them. He gave insights of  AI, automation, digital landscapes which can enable the students to create meaningful human experiences of the future and how they can imbibe their management values towards this path. 
Ms Anastasia Grineva shared her words of wisdom with the students enlightening them about the importance and strengthening of Indo-Russian ties. She told students about the avenues which students could seek and look into after their post-graduation to work for Russian firms, telling them that this would benefit both countries. She wished them luck for their future. 
Dr Deepak Vohra being a patriotic person, motivated students with his power-packed dialogues full of josh. Dr Vohra emphasized to the students to work with zeal and vigor and become responsible citizens for their country. Dr Vohra delivered a power-packed session and motivated the students to aim for their goals in their lives. He advised the upcoming management professionals, to establish themselves in society since they are already qualified. He also emphasized development of their technical and managerial skills.








Orientation Week Day 2
5th July 2023
Workshop on “Ice breaking & Team Building”
A workshop on team building was organized on 5th July 2023 for the newly admitted class of PGDM, PGDM IB, and PGDM RM 2023-25. The Trainer for the session was Mr Deepak Behl , the founder and CEO of Astra Protection Group and Astra Training. 
Mr. Behl explained to the students, they are like an iceberg with many hidden qualities that they may not even be aware of. Using a glass half full of water as an example, he discussed the importance of perception. In order to motivate students he recited Harivansh Rai Bachchan's poem "Koshish karne valo ki kabhi haar nhi hoti". By reciting the poem, he explained that this is what students need to keep in mind when entering the business world. 
The session was completely covered with different sets of activities, games, engagements, laughter, exercises like solving the riddle of connecting nine evenly spaced circles with five, four, three, and one straight lines to demonstrate that, when motivated, anything is possible. He also made students introduce themselves by shaking hands, giving high fives, and hugging each other. Overall it was a nice and healthy experience of the second day of the orientation programme. 





                                 






"Workshop on Time Management"
 
On the 5th of July, 2023, a workshop on “Time Management” was organized as part of the Orientation Week for the 2023-2025 batch of PGDM students of Jagan Institute of Management Studies, Sector 5, Rohini. The keynote speaker of the session was Mr. Monis Shamsi who is a chief strategist for BNPS International. He is also a mentor for Start-up India and student career mentor with University of Westminster London, JIMS Rohini and Fairgaze.
This session was designed to help students utilize their time in the world of corporates and business, where they must always be on the go and cannot afford to waste time.
The discussion was packed with valuable insights where students were enlightened with ‘Importance of time management for a management student’.  Mr. Shamsi suggested prioritising the things according to the need and importance at that particular time.
The session enlightened the students how they can manage their time by correcting habits, developing smart goals, and prioritizing the tasks.
 












Workshop on Staying Happy for Mental and physical being”
Mental health is equally important as Physical health of a person. Taking care of this JIMS took initiative to organize a mental health awareness session by Ms Sheetal Agarwal as a part of orientation week for PGDM Students . Ms Sheetal is a medical clown and an anthropologist. She finds utmost joy in using her knowledge in sociology and her skills as a medical clown in societal upliftment. In an era of technological revolution, she believe in the power of playfulness, empathy and collaboration in improving lives around her through her clown acts.
         The session started with a brief introduced of Ms Sheetal Agarwal and it was evident that this was the first interaction of such kind of session for many of us. To create a positive and energetic environment, she initiated a series of activities for making the session more interactive.
Ms. Sheetal Agarwal engaged students to do some funny activities like shake your hands, hips, tongues, and legs to strengthen their mental wellbeing. These activities helped them to loosen up and embrace a sense of fun .She then instructed them to walk in the room and shake hands, promoting social interaction among the each other. Next, she instructed to make groups of five people and asked us to share our names and our favourite dishes with our newfound peers. This exercise aimed to encourage us to connect with individuals we didn't know before, fostering a sense of community and friendship.
The highlights of the day, however, were the delightful array of cooperative games, designed particularly to disengage the audience from inhibitions and any built-up stress. One can be certain that Ms. Agarwal's lessons on the benefits of laughter, self-love, and the importance of good mental health will have a long-lasting impact on the audience.
             With her guidance, we were reminded that happiness is within our reach, and by practicing her strategies, we can lead fulfilling and joyous lives.

Workshop on "Let your Brand Speak"
Personal Branding Session

"Your brand is what people say about you when you are not in the room." As rightly said by Jeff Bezos, one can't ignore the power a brand holds. To explain this concept of Personal Branding in detail JIMS, Rohini organized a workshop on "Let your Brand Speak” during the orientation week for the new batch of PGDM. Different speakers engaged separate groups of students to provide them insights on personal branding. 
Ms Pooja B Gautam (An ICF Certified Coach, International Trainer, and an ISO Certified Soft Skills Trainer), Ms Trisha Jain(Trainer ,Image Consultants), Ms Anuja Thakur(Certified training coach and soft skills trainer), Ms Shalu  Mehra(Content specialist Author and Trainer) were the speakers who have a common vision of enabling people to realize their latent exclusivity through a process-driven methodology targeting holistic amelioration of Appearance, Behaviour, and Communication. 
The objective of this session was to make students understand how a human being as a personal brand might help in gaining credibility and repute in the corporate industry and how it will further help the students in their careers. 
As a result of the session and several interactive games, the students had a clear understanding of the personal traits they wanted to popularize and develop into their brand. The session culminated in the students wanting to create an impactful and powerful identity for themselves.

7th July 2023

Session on Navigating the Dynamic Business Landscape: Key Skills and Strategies
In today's business landscape, change is the norm rather than the exception. Professionals and organizations that embrace change as an opportunity for growth of management students. JIMS, Rohini organised a guest session for the new batch of PGDM Students during their orientation week. The guest speaker was Mr. Prashant S, Talent Acquisition, Head Greenlam Industries who is an HR professional with over 16 years of experience in leading the HR function & has been managing large teams across all aspects of HR.
Mr. Prashant started his discussion by emphasizing on Networking which turned to be an integral part of his professional journey He encouraged students to be active on Linkedin which can give them platform to connect with the industry leaders and like-minded professionals. Networking can always enhance the persona of an individual and being a management student, one should be well connected with the peers similar to the work profile. The session provided a valuable opportunity for the students to gain a better understanding of today's dynamic business landscape. 










‘Uncasing a Case’ Case Study Session to Understand, Analyze and Evaluate
7th July 2023
Case Study is a real business problem and is a very important method for a management graduate. In view of this JIMS, Rohini conducted a few case study workshops on 7th July 2023 for the new joiners during their orientation week at different levels. The speakers of these workshops were the eminent and experienced faculties of the institute Dr. Yukti Ahuja(Associate Professor), Dr. Deepti Kakar(Professor), Dr. Neha Shukla(Associate Professor), Ms Ambika Bhatia(Assistant Professor), Dr. Himanshu Goel(Assistant Professor). The objective of this workshop was to make the students capable to develop an analytical mind and to be able to search various elements of the case, the issues and problems involved and the best possible solution to solve the case. 
The workshops aimed at developing analytical insights among the students and to demonstrate how various elements of a case affect organizations and how crucial a role they play in the decision making process.
Students participated in these workshops are happy at learning one more skill for management decision making which could further guide them in facing the real life situations.

Alumni Interaction
 
 
Venturing on a new path can be sometimes nerve-wrecking; a student can find himself lost with a plethora of doubts stacked up in his head while joining into a post graduate program from the very first day. A mentor or an Alumnus who has already designed his own path could be the best guide for such a fresh aspirant. JIMS Rohini invited few alumni from various batches and specialisations during the orientation week of new batch for an interaction with first year students and provided them an opportunity to collect valuable information from alumni about various career tracks. 
Mr. Yuvraj Singh Shekawat, L&D Professional of Batch (2011-13), Ms Harshita Singh Risk and Financial Advisory, Deloitte Touchè USI team of Batch (2020-22), Ms Simarpreet Singh, Manager, Tata Motors of Batch (2018-20), Ms Ishita Agarwal, Financial Modeller, Deloitte of Batch (2015-17) Dr. Himanshu Goel, Ms. Juhi Gupta ,Consultant PWC of Batch(2015-17) , Ms. Garima Gandhi, Deputy Manager, Axis Bank of Batch (2015-17) were few to name who shared their journey from being a management student to a professional career. Students are encouraged to take online certifications on excel that will help them get placements in top-notch companies.
Students were able to connect themselves with these alumnus since they also went through the same path and are currently working with top brands in different profiles. The students even asked questions about hard core sales, Finance, Excel, Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Business and Retail Management to which these alumnus enthusiastically took up the queries. This session was interactive, inspirational, and educational for students and they were also eager to put forward their doubts and concern in front of the alumni.

Motivation Session
Success requires dedication, commitment, and a never-give-up attitude. Getting motivated is one of the biggest challenges that many of us face. It is often easy for us to let our personal issues and situations prevent us from achieving our goals. We all hold the key to our success, but sometimes we just need a little push to make the leap. To inculcate self-motivation in the students JIMS,Rohini invited the international motivational speaker Mr. Sandeep Wadhera on concluding day of the orientation to keep the pace of motivation level high amongst the students. 
The speaker presented real-life examples from his life and encouraged them to never give up. Additionally, he engaged students in team activities and gave an example of "Taking Actions Fast." The session was very beneficial for them, and they resolved never to give up on their goals. Lastly, the speaker gave more motivational examples and answered students' questions. He picked few topics in context to a management graduate like Positive Thinking & Attitude, Mind Power, Leadership Skills, Stress Management and Decision Making. The speaker discussed various ways to change our mind-set to achieve our goals, such as respecting ourselves, celebrating our small accomplishments, being grateful, and so on. Goals in life bring optimism into life, and such positive changes can make one's life brighter and more successful. There are many motivational quotes that have an impact on our lives. Some of them include "A life without a goal is like a sailor without a boat." "Failing to plan is planning to fail."
The session ended up with a huge round of applause by the students and the speaker as well. It actually enlighten a fire amongst the students and they all were geared up to join the classes from the coming week.
