Ms. Rashmi Singh, Head of HR, Mitutoyo South Asia Pvt. Ltd. orchestrated a highly insightful session on "Competency Mapping: Assessment and Development Centers” at Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS, Rohini Sector-5) on November 29, 2023, catering to final year students specializing in Contemporary Issues In HR (CIHR). She is an Alumnus of XLRI, Jamshedpur and has over two decades of working in the HR domain.
The session delved into the definition of competencies as "a measurable pattern of knowledge, skill, abilities, behaviors, and other characteristics that an individual needs to perform work roles or occupational functions successfully." Ms. Singh effectively distinguished between skills and competencies through an engaging ice-breaker activity, sparking excitement in the class.
Presented in a workshop format, the program enabled students to internalize the nuances of Competency, Models, Frameworks, Tools and Techniques, and their significance in evaluation, development, and succession planning. The students were complemented theoretical concepts with insightful experience-sharing, reinforcing contemporary HR practices.
Particularly enlightening was the exploration of Leadership Core Competencies, elucidating what it takes to become an effective leader. The session emphasized that competencies in managing oneself, projects, people, programs, and leading organizations can be cultivated through Assessment and Development Centers. Individual development plans formulated during the workshop can play a pivotal role in creating effective succession plans.
