Advancements in science and technology has made application of data science and analytics essential for all the disciplines. One of the most common tools used for data analytics is 'R' programming language. To enhance the knowledge and skills of faculty members on data and text analysis, two days Faculty development Programme from 31st May to 1st June, 2019 was organized by JIMS, Rohini on “Data Analysis Using R”, .This FDP was specially designed for faculty members of IT and management department. The FDP was aimed at enhancing the skill set of Faculty, Researchers, IT professionals and Scientists of R & D labs. It aimed to enable them to do data and text analysis effectively and also enhance their ability to analyse large data sets from social web sites. FDP received a good response from other colleges. Faculty members and researchers from various other colleges participated in the FDP.
Focus area covered in the FDP were:
1. Introduction to Data Analysis
2. Data Pre - processing using R
3. Regression Analysis and its Application
4. Data Clustering and Classification
5. Textual Data Analysis
1st Day of FDP
The first day of FDP program started with the inaugural session, in which Dr.Manjot Kaur Bhatia, Professor(IT), JIMS interacted with the participants and gave an overview, on the techniques and principles of Data analysis. Resource person for both the days of FDP was Dr. Reema Aswani, Research, Associate, Indian Institute of Delhi. She shared her knowledge on data analysis and various tools used for data analysis. Hands on session on introduction, Installation and data analytics part of R programming language was done on the first day.
2nd Day of FDP
On Second day of FDP, regression analysis, data clustering and classification techniques were conducted. Practical sessions on "Twitter data Analysis" and sentiment analysis were conducted. All the faculties benefited a lot from these practiced session on sentiment analysis. The FDP closed with the valedictory session in which, Dr. Praveen Arora, HOD-IPU Affiliated Programs and Dr. Manjot Kaur Bhatia, convener for the FDP, distributed the certificates to the participants.
