On July 24, 2025, a field visit was conducted to the Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Sonipat (operated by the JM BAXI Group), for the students of PGDM IB Batch 2024-26, JIMS Rohini. With over a century of legacy in the logistics sector, JM BAXI has emerged as a key private player in India’s multimodal logistics network. This ICD plays a pivotal role in facilitating freight movement between India’s northern hinterland and western maritime ports such as Mundra and Pipavav. The visit provided insights into the operational, infrastructural, and regulatory frameworks that underpin efficient cargo management and multimodal connectivity.
About ICD Sonipat
ICD Sonipat spans 32 acres, with 30 acres designated as a customs-notified area. It functions as a full-fledged Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) under the Government of India’s PM Gati Shakti initiative. It maintains dedicated zones for various functions such as a stuffing warehouse for loose cargo and carting points for truck operations. The terminal employs licensed Customs House Agents (CHAs) and certified F-Card and G-Card holders to facilitate documentation and handling.
