Introduction:
The HR club of JIMS, Samanvay has organized a workshop aimed to enhance participants' proficiency in Excel and provide them with essential skills to streamline their data management and analysis tasks. The workshop was divided into two days, with the first day focusing on fundamental Excel functions and the second day on advanced techniques such as Pivot Tables and Dashboard presentations.
Day 1
The first day of the workshop was led by two faculty members Dr. Himanshu Goel and Dr. Shrajal Gupta who expertly guided participants through various Excel functions and formulas. The day's agenda covered essential topics such as:
1.Alt functions.
We learned about alternative functions in Excel, which provide shortcuts for commonly used commands, thereby improving efficiency and productivity.
2.Concatenate function.
We explored this function to combine text from different cells into a single cell, facilitating data merger and segregation analysis.
3.Text to Column function.
Later, text to Column feature was demonstrated, allowing us to split data from one column into multiple columns based on specified delimiters, enabling better organization and analysis of data.
4.IF, AND, OR functions.
Participants gained an understanding of logical functions such as IF, AND, and OR, which are crucial for decision-making and data validation in Excel.
5.VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, XLOOKUP functions:
These lookup functions were thoroughly explained, empowering us to efficiently search for and retrieve data from large datasets, thus enhancing data analysis capabilities.
The interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and hands-on exercises enabled participants to grasp these fundamental Excel functions effectively.
Day 2
The second day of the workshop was presided by Mr. Pankaj Gupta, a proud alumnus of JIMS itself, who delved into advanced Excel techniques essential for data analysis and reporting. The focus was on
1.Pivot Tables
We learned how to create Pivot Tables to summarize and analyze large datasets quickly. The versatility of Pivot Tables in generating insightful reports from complex data was emphasized.
2.Dashboard Presentation
The workshop culminated in a session on creating dynamic dashboards in Excel. We discovered how to design visually appealing and interactive dashboards to present our key findings effectively.
